Water pollution, littering and landfills, increased carbon footprints, public health issues, and climate change are some of the many environmental issues our society faces each day. Fortunately, in the most recent years, a vast array ofstars in Hollywood have chosen to participate in the fight against these recurring concerns. From leading a more environmentally friendly lifestyle, to further endorsing what it truly means to save the earth from its worst, these 12 celebrities have surely made an impact for the better using their platform to save the planet.

Jamie Oliver

According to One Green Planet, Jamie Oliver has been busy hosting a new meat-free cooking show and launching a vegetarian inspired cook book called “Veg: Easy & Delicious Meals for Everyone”. He also states how he ultimately wants to change people’s perception of vegetarian food. He adds “it’s better for our health and the planet, and what matters most is- it’s delicious!”

Who knew Bruce Wayne cared this much about the environment? In 2010, Ben Affleck founded the Eastern Congo Initiative. The organization thrives on reinstating Congo’s once booming demand in coffee beans. Their efforts include using compost from coffee pulp to be recycled as fertilizers ensuring sustainability in its production. Not bad for a guy who drives a hybrid as well.

According to Elle.com, this singing sensation has been busy contributing her efforts toward an eco-friendly fashion line. In collaboration with Champion and friend Donald Glover, SZA has designed a sustainable line of jumpers that support the fight against what harms our earth. With embroidered sayings like “Sustainability Gang” and “Puck Flastic”, this rising star has definitely proved she’s more than just your average musician.

Emma Watson

According to Good on You, Emma Watson is considered the ultimate icon in sustainable fashion. She’s collaborated with brands like People Tree, her Instagram advocacy with @ThePress tour, and her involvement with Vogue Australia’s first ever sustainability issue. She has continuously worn only sustainable clothing on red carpet events and she’s even had designers such as Louis Vuitton stitch up some of those looks for her.

Will Smith

Since 2015, Will Smith and his son Jaden both founded Just Water. It is an eco-friendly water bottle company that derives its packaging solely from renewable resources, including “plastic” from a sugarcane. Born from Jaden’s love for the ocean, the company has accomplished so much ever since. From implementing a flavoured water line to achieving a $100 million valuation. The Smiths are surely to be saving this earth we call home in no time.

She owns a vegetable farm off the coast of Maui with personal trainer and friend Bob Greene, she’s put up a school in Kokstad, South Africa that uses solar power, a recycled water system, and ensures its school meals through their very own vegetable garden, and she’s also used her position in mainstream media to further showcase everything we can gain from an environmentally friendly lifestyle, with the goal to use her platform to save the planet for future generations.

Pamela Anderson

Former Baywatch star has built an environmentally friendly hotel in Abu Dhabi. She states how it’s built using no fossil fuels and insists its initial contribution toward the kindness of the earth. Anderson is also considered a key activist toward cruelty against animals. According to PETA, she incorporated her activism in an advertisement to spread awareness on how much meat and dairy farms drain from the daily water use of Americans.

Brad Pitt

Brad Pitt is responsible for various eco-friendly organizations such as the Make It Right Foundation, they’re prime responsibility consists of building sustainable houses for single family homes in America. He also co-led the Jolie-Pitt Foundation with ex-wife Angelina Jolie. The foundation commits to environmental security that ensures impoverished areas of prevention toward negative environmental changes.

Mark Ruffalo

Who knew playing a superhero on the big screen could inspire you to be one in real-life? Like fellow actor Leonardo DiCaprio, Mark Ruffalo has also furthered his activism through film, to assist in save the planet from environmental damage. He took part in a movie called “Dark Waters”. The basis of the story ultimately talks about the pollution in our water systems that’s been going on for years. Ruffalo is also known to attend multiple protests fighting against climate change or the placement of pipelines in various communities.

This supermodel lives and breathes environmentally friendly– she’s even got her husband included in it too. Gisele Bundchen is a goodwill ambassador to the UN Environment Programme, which makes sense why she’s implemented this practice within her very own household. She’s taught her kids how to garden, she believes it’s the best way of teaching them valuable lessons in life rather than depending on technology to do that.

Stella McCartney

Stella McCartney is no stranger to the sustainable fashion industry. Recently, she has contributed even more to sustainability. Her recent collaboration with Adidas has proven to be her most eco-friendly yet. The collection is 70% recyclable and firmly states how zero waste was involved in the creation of the 4D printed shoe. McCartney continuously states how important it is for her to create pieces not only to be bought, but also not to be thrown away. Her goal being to use her platform to save the planet for those who come after us.
