Sodium Laureth Sulfate Might Be in Your Shower Gel

If It Suds, Is It Clean?

sodium laureth sulfate

Sodium laureth sulfate is a lathering agent. In fact, it depends on the manufacturing process, hence sodium laureate sulphate may be contaminated with ethylene oxide and dioxane. Moreover, this chemical is inexpensive and very commonly used in commercial products. Likewise, SLES is also derived from palm kernel oil and coconut oil.

In contrast, studies have found this chemical to be an irritant. For instance, SLES has the ability to cause eye or skin irritation. Nevertheless, is this chemical particularly harmful? According to Healthline, there is no tangible evidence linking SLS and SLES to infertility or development issues. Therefore, we shouldn’t let our guard down when it comes to hidden chemicals.
