Cool Weather Fashion Must-Haves

Bundle Up While Staying Stylish

By Charlotte Singmin

While Winter can be a tough sell when it comes to stylish ensembles (how do people look cute in head to toe puffer coats?!), it is an ideal time for layering, albeit with the weather in mind, but undoubtedly with a sartorial nod to trends and classic styles.

Whether you’re happiest in a pair of Parisian sustainable sneakers and some organic denim, or simply love the thought of cozying up in an eco-conscious pea-coat, we’ve put together our top fashion must-haves from some of our favourite planet-loving brands, to accelerate your Autumn Wardrobe.

  1.  Poppy Barley, The Chelsea Boot

This classic 60’s style takes on an updated variation with Canadian footwear brand Poppy Barley at the helm; water-resistant leather and a rubber cleated sole make The Chelsea Boot ideal for the unpredictability of Autumnal weather, while maintaining an iconic look.  We love that this female founded, Edmonton based brand travels frequently to their factories in Mexico and Brazil, and are passionate about upholding socially responsible business practices.

  1.  Tale Of The Future, Zygzag Rollie Bag

Just because festival season has sadly come to a close, who’s to say we can’t continue to rock that boho vibe throughout the colder months?  This practical and pretty, black and white Zygzag Rollie Bag from eco-aware UK brand Tale of the Future, features gorgeous Nepalese handiwork, an environmentally safe canvas outer, jute lining and azo-free dyes.

  1.  Beaton Linen, Overalls

We’re all about style that feels good, and nothing says comfort like these versatile, vintage inspired linen overalls from Beaton Linen, to cozy into Fall.  We love them with a slim turtleneck underneath, or a chunky knit sweater overtop, and are fans of the British Columbia based brand’s commitment to quality, and use of eco-friendly dyes.

  1.  Gunas, Flamingo Handbag

Add a pop of colour and classic styling to any Fall look with the Flamingo, a luxurious vegan leather handbag from cruelty-free New York accessory and shoe brand Gunas.  Structured yet lightweight, we’d gladly carry this eco-polyurethane purse with a recycled bottle lining, knowing that the brand puts every effort into sustainability, and supports conscientious consumerism.

  1.  Outland, Denim Jacket

Is anything more essential than a solid denim jacket for adding an extra layer and effortless-cool for Fall?  We’re raving about this unisex, classic cut, six pocket, dark organic denim version from Aussie brand Outland.  Meghan Markle is a fan of the brand and so are we, not only for their style and quality, but because of the brand’s commitment to helping young Cambodian women rescued from the sex-trade sustain a healthy and supported career in manufacturing.

  1.  Veja, Sneakers

We’re of the opinion that a classic sneaker makes the perfect addition to any outfit, and this vegan version from conscientious brand Veja, is our top pick for Fall.  We love the neutral go-with-everything tones of this environmentally friendly shoe, (the mesh upper is upcycled from recycled plastic bottles to be breathable and waterproof), and that the brand is passionate about ensuring ethical work conditions, environmentally conscious materials and production, and transparent business practices.

  1.  Augden, Boyfriend Sweater

The perfect oversized turtleneck, this hand knit, luxuriously oversized alpaca yarn Boyfriend Sweater from artisanal brand Augden is top of our list to add to our closets for Fall.  We’re inspired by the brand’s dedication to preserving a centuries old craft, giving back to the Andean community where the knits are made, while creating gorgeous pieces with a timeless appeal.

  1.  Peggy Sue Collection, Printed Graphic T-shirt

We think what you chose to wear can speak volumes, which is why we’ll be proudly donning an outspoken Printed Graphic T-Shirt from eco-conscious Toronto clothing brand Peggy Sue Collection, this Fall.  Thanks to non-gmo, organic cotton, this t is super soft, and uses water-less printing and hand screened graphics to in production.

  1.  Vaute, Pea Coat

An iconic piece of outerwear like this Classic Gender Neutral Pea-Coat from cruelty-free New York clothing brand Vaute, is the ideal addition to our autumn wardrobe.  Insulated with recycled fibres, vegan, snow resistant, and windproof, we love the brand’s innovation in using high-tech, sustainable textiles to keep their products both cruelty free, and stylishly suitable for cooler weather.

  1.  The Ethical Silk Company, Mulberry Silk Robe

Shorter days and colder nights inspire us to stay in and chill, and what better outfit to do so in than this beautiful Mulberry Silk Robe.  You’ll be chic and cozy in this hand printed, azo-free dyed, retro inspired silk robe, made by The Ethical Silk Company which is committed to ethical tailoring and fair trade standards, as well as giving back to charity.
